On books that were marked as started via Kobo Sync, it seems like the started-to-read date is not always being set correctly. It seems to be using the date the book was purchased in Kobo instead of the date I started reading it.
The books I’ve had issues with were sync’d across on the same day I started reading them. I suppose there’s a possibility that StoryGraph is picking the wrong date, but I suspect it’s more likely that Kobo is sending the wrong date, and this bug will need to be passed on to them.
An example: the book I’m currently reading (Half-Made Girls by Sam Witt) was purchased on 16th November 2016. I first started reading this on 2nd August 2026 (so it’s not a case of a re-read causing problems) and I let the Kobo sync mark it as currently reading. I would expect it to have a start date of 2nd August 2026, but instead it shows as 16th November 2016.
Either they fixed that bug very quickly, or it’s intermittent. I started a new book earlier today that I bought from Kobo on 17th October 2016, and it has sync’d across with the correct start date of 4th August 2026.
not fixed; the book I just finished was started on the 9th August 2026 but bought two days earlier, and the start date in StoryGraph is 7th August 2026.
Ugh, I hate intermittent bugs!
The current pattern for this issue seems to be every other book has an incorrect start date, but this is based on 5 books so far.
boneist Okay thank you for this!
boneist Can you please email us with your TSG email/username a few examples of the book title, actual date started, and then the date we added it in? Say that this is for me, Nadia. Thank you!
Nadia I just replied to an email sent by Abbie with the requested details. Hope that’s ok!
Yes, this is something that we will pass on to Kobo. Thank you.
