What would you like to see in the next iteration of the stats dashboard?

Think new charts or UI/UX changes/improvements!

I would love to see stats on books read from my TBR vs not from my TBR! Also, how long they were in my TBR before I finally read them.
I think we can see how many owned books we read in the yearly wrap-up, I would like to see that monthly as well.

I'd love to be able to see pages/minutes per day for the different plus categories (genres, tags, ficiton/nonfic, etc)

also I'd love to be able to have a chart that compares tagged books vs nontagged with that tag!

I'd love to be able to get the stats of a tag for a certain year! For example I have a "library" tag for books I've checked out from the library, and I'd love to see just the stats for books in the library tag that were read in 2025 without having to make a library-2025 tag.

I'd love to be able to create a cover collage of my 5 stars reads. I asked on Reddit if it's possible and was suggested to suggest it here. 🙂

I would love the option to exclude books with no rating from my star rating chart, as they can skew the graph (making it less useful and visually appealing to me)

I would really like to be able to put in continuous values for each book. For example, if it took me 8hrs 32min to read a book (I track this via a time-tracking app), I'd like to somehow put that info into a book's tags, and use that to feed in to plots on custom stats, like time read in each genre. I also measure the physical thickness of books I finish to see if I will ever read my height in books in a year, and that is also a continuous variable. I considered using tags for this, but the numeric nature of this is I think kind of incompatible with tags because I'd end up with a new tag or two for every book.

Bumping the idea from Stats V4 - Key-value pairs for tags which hasn't yet been implemented. I would really love this to clear up my tags, as I track author background and gender, as well as the source for my books (which subscription apps, library, thrifted books etc) and romance tropes!

I second rainbowrachel and I would love the option to work with a standard color palette for the custom charts, but also have the possibility to modify to our own color scheme if possible.

Publisher stats are what I am most desperate for! This would I think also massively help with giveaways too, as I want to know which books published by which publishers I have given the highest ratings to, or even which imprints if we are being specific. And with that information, which publishers to follow more closely for new releases or giveaways!!

I would love to see more charts on authors, like average rating by author. I specifically try to make sure I read diversely enough, which is why I track author nationality with Tags (also part of the book club reading list goal!) and gender, specifically for a women's book club to ensure we're reading stories by women, for women, about women.

I would love to see a new chart on the read page comparing how many books were read by whether they are owned or not. Similarly to the read/unread chart on the owned books page.

I agree with the series charts, I would love to see how often I read stand-alone titles vs series and which books in series do I typically prefer (is it always #3 or #4 etc). Also seconding the suggestion of seeing how many series I've "finished".

I love the idea of the yearly wrap up mood chart, I would love to be able to see that in the default stats page all year long, to see how it develops and how each book impacts it.

I feel like the Plus Stats for Moods could use a bit of improvement. The mood stats have a mood chart within them, which doesn't make sense to me. I would love to see how many books I have read with that mood vs how many are on my TBR or how many I have DNF'd.

For Plus stats in general, I don't find it useful to only see the overall stats for read books with no time frame. I would love to be able to add a secondary filter there, like in standard stats, where we can specify a time range.

  • I'm not really sure how to describe this, except by example. I have a custom chart for speculative fiction tropes and subgenres, based on my tags. So, tags are things like sff-dragons, sff-time-travel, sff-dark-fantasy, etc. I'd love it if any time I create a new tag with the sff- prefix that I use, that would automatically get detected by the system and pulled into the custom chart, rather than requiring me to add each new tag manually.
  • Seconding the option to just use preset colours for custom charts. My custom charts always look awful because I just don't have the colour theory or design knowledge to pick good colours. It would be much quicker and easier and have better results if I could just choose from an existing colour scheme.
  • Better ability to look at the sorts of books that I'm really enjoying recently. Maybe a new chart that shows the average rating I've given to each mood or to each genre over whatever time period I'm looking at. Wait! I just now discovered that this page actually already exists! This is very exciting for me. So, instead, I suggest making this feature more obviously accessible, since I had been missing it all this time. And probably prettying it up a little bit too; it does look fairly bare-bones right now. And another thing I'd like is an indication of how many books the rating is coming from. An average rating of 5 (from 1 book) is very different from an average rating of 5 (from 5 books).
  • Most chart elements also serve as links to lists of all books that fit the relevant criteria. On desktop, I really wish there was an easy way to open these links in a new tab.
  • The UI colours for the initial dropdown menus at the top of the page are honestly a mess right now in my setup (dark mode, desktop, firefox). It gives white text on a light grey background for the headers and selected items, which is close to unreadable.

Would it be possible to hide empty graphs in plus stats? Or even better, when creating a graph set it so that it shows only for a certain category (read/owned/a specific genre/tag)?
Some examples:

  • I tag the books in my tbr so that I know where I can find them/if I need a certain subscription. Once I’ve read the book I delete that tag because I don’t need it anymore. I have a graph that shows me this stat, but it only makes sense for “To-read pile” and it’s empty for all other categories
  • I have a custom graph for audiobook duration, but I don’t have any audiobook marked as owned (the standard duration graph already disappears from the stats when I filter owned books)

Plus stats idea—Ability to select more than one category under the "viewing stats for…" dropdown. Similar to the Compare Stats feature but instead of showing you, for example, side-by-side stats for Read books vs. Dark mood, it would show combined stats for Read books and Dark mood together.

New stats:

  • I'd love to see series stats! I personally care about series length, series count, proportion of "finished" series (and how I finished them: up-to-date for now, fully finished, finished because I gave up), etc. I know plenty of people (myself included) have their own separate series tracking spreadsheets.
  • I would love to see charts about how common vs uncommon the books I read are! For annual/month stats, this could be a bar chart with buckets for # of ratings (or times shelved) on the x-axis. Or for all-time stats, it could be a scatterplot similar to Publication Year vs. Read Date chart except it would be Rating Count vs Read Date. For that I think it would probably make sense to capture # of ratings at the time you finish it, but maybe current-state of ratings would also be good
  • I would love to keep track of author stats, and books-read by author stats (e.g. what % of books I read are by authors from xyz country). This probably won't be remotely feasible until we have new author pages, but when that happens I'd love to be able to essentially use custom tags for author pages and look at stats using those author tags
  • Simpler version of author stats would be a quick stat on how many new authors I discovered in a month/year/whatever stats period I'm looking at. I can't remember but I think this might already be in the annual wrap-up?
  • Stats on reading challenges! How many I completed in a year, average % completion, things like that

UI:

  • +1 to expanding the most read authors chart, or giving the option to do so
  • I'd love to be able to compare more than 2 categories! E.g. view 2023 vs 2024 vs 2025 in one place. I'm imagining the line graph and bar graph up top would have 3+ lines and 3+ grouped bars respectively, rather than the current two, and below that there would be another column (or more) of stats for the additional category.
  • One of the fun plus features is getting to make your own charts and choose colors. But I'm the first to admit that's not my forte - I'd love if there were multiple pre-set color scheme options to choose from for the custom stats. I would also love this for default stats (I dislike the colors of my top 5 moods together) but I think that might make it harder to parse other people's stats at a glance if everyone has different colors for the same value

I would really love to see all authors I've read more than once in the Most Read Authors chart. What I'm imagining is the chart would still display the top 10 by default, but you could click a button to expand the chart to show all.

I really like the condensed ratings bar chart on user profiles that aggregates star ratings into 6 buckets (0-0.75, 1-1.75, etc.)—I would love to be able to see a similar condensed ratings chart on the stats dashboard, with the option to toggle between condensed and regular chart views.

I'm not sure if this counts as strictly a "Stats" idea, but I would love a way to separate "tags that feed my custom charts" vs "tags that I actually use as... tags."

For example, I have multiple sets of tags for "original-language-X" or "set-in-X" to supply the data for my custom charts. But I have other tags that are for things like particular book lists that I'm reading, or whether a book is a translation or a sequel, etc. And that latter category never has a chance of showing up in the Tags chart because it gets dominated by "original-language-english" and "author-nationality-united-states" and other tags that I would rather not see in that chart at all, because the data is represented in the Custom charts. I'm attaching a pic of what my Tag Stats graph looks like for this year, and only the three circled ones are ones that I'd like to see in it.

I would like to fine tune which authors appear in my Most Read Authors chart.

If I read comics which have a lot of authors, then they quickly dominate my chart, which, TBH, renders it rather functionless to me. Currently 9/10 authors in mine are from comics. I cannot use this chart for anything interesting anymore.

I am interested in EXcluding some genres perhaps, which would narrow things down immediately.

tuftymctavish Totally agree. I'd broaden this to a desire to be able to fine tune and exclude certain books/authors from basically all of the stats. I read a truly ungodly amount of comics this year, and I resorted to making a tag called "2025-non-xmen" for all of the books that I read that were NOT comics, just so I could look at the tag stats for just those books. The Plus stats option to look at one particular genre is nice, but like you, what I really want is to be able to exclude a genre the same way I can in search and have every graph update accordingly.
