Just wanted to flag that the "kobo_popup_seen" cookie only has a week-long expiration date, would be nice to extend that so we don't keep getting the popup every week. I assume the popup will go away at some point anyway so not a big deal but probably a nice QoL improvement if you're planning on running the popup much longer.
I am also have issues with editions in the Australian store. If I have a title in up next then start reading it in Kobo app, it will create a new entry for the edition without my tags coming across. There doesn't seem to be any way to switch the tags between editions at that point and the other edition remains in my to-read list.
I would rather work around this than give up the feature. This has really improved my life and caused me to finally switch to Kobo for my main read. I obsess about my stats and would get behind etc. so much easier.
archytas I've also had this problem, I've been deleting my tags and removing the other copy, and then retagging the new one. The usual 'switch to this edition' option isn't there for this scenario.
ninett I have discovered that if add the book to currently reading before opening it on Kindle (and I have been making sure the edition type is digital) it seems to sync fine, if that helps.
It works great! However, I wish there was a way to confirm whether to start syncing a book (i.e. to avoid marking books I accidentally opened as currently reading) and also whether to re-track books I've read before (I look back at books I've already read for quotes/annotations/book clubs/etc) so that it doesn't get marked as a reread when I open it again.
rachelicate i have accidentally 'started' a book or two like this as well now. I also think a 'begin tracking this book?' might be useful in cases where a book is either opened for the first time or opened again after being previously marked as finished. Not sure how feasible that is with the kobo API
Congratulations. It works very well. There seems to be some issue within Kobo about books bought from the UK store being separate "editions" than those in whichever is the main store for them. I've had to upload some covers and update some information on books where it has recorded them as currently read. I'll keep an eye on it. It might settle down (as the books in question were already (manually entered) in storygraph for me - I'd started them but not finished them yet)
chrisecurtis If they were already manually entered, we should have kept you on the editions you started tracking...and then if we match you with an edition that doesn't have certain info already, then we take info from Kobo's API. Keep an eye on it please and report back. Thank you!
Nadia It seems to have settled down. If I start reading a new book and Kobo syncs the book, the information comes across and I get book covers etc. and the editions are sensible (e.g. audiobook if that's what I've started.
chrisecurtis Fabulous!
Nadia
I love this merge! The only problem I've noticed when completing books is that for the daily total of pages read, it adds the total pages of the book instead of how many pages you read that day. Is there a way to fix this? :)
M_D2 Oh, I saw that via testing and thought I'd fixed it! If you haven't fixed it already, can you please send a ticket to support@thestorygraph.com describing how you finished the book, if you changed editions at all or did any manual entries, and then screenshots of the erroneous journal entries. And then: Do you know how to fix it yourself in the meantime?
Nadia I think I was able to fix it already manually on my end, unfortunately. I'll try to complete something else in two separate days to get screenshots :)
M_D2 No rush! I'm sure somebody else, including myself, will come across it again soon! Thank you and sorry for any inconvenience.
M_D2 Have had a few people message in about this yesterday so am working on it now!
Nadia awesome! Thank you! I've been looking forward to this merge since this was announced and this has been the best upgrade!
M_D2 Should be fixed now!
Any updates...it's gone very quiet here and at Kobo
chrisecurtis Because we're focusing on getting the integration out for June as per the announcement. :-D
Anyone know when this will actually launch? The Kobo announcements have been very vague "June".
benhen31 kobo keeps giving out incorrect info about it be a roll out from the 6th June, but nothings been released yet
ttwyman Yup, pretty poorly executed by them!
benhen31 yeah, im not sure where they got that info from
Cool!
Maybe not the place but hopefully this also means a step ahead for the API, I do all my reading on a kobo but prefer koreader app so I would much prefer to write a plugin for koreader to achieve a similar result. Until then, I can only see this as good news.
xdox Our work on a public API is unrelated to this Kobo work. We do still hope to offer one as soon as possible though.
