Pagination for book lists: paged view instead of infinite scroll

I'd love it if the shelves/book lists had actual pagination and not just infinite scroll.
Update from Nadia: Original title used to be "Pagination for book lists". I've edited it now to make it easier for people to find. (2024/03/08)

Looks you're only getting To-Read and Owned books this side of the New Year, I'm afraid! The other pages should follow not too long into 2026.
Pagination options just went live for the To-Read page only. I now need to detour and work on the book pane redesign and performance on long lists as this'll help everything, but especially the 50- and 100-per-page options, load faster.
Hopefully y'all like the way it's set up. Once the redesign and performance bits are done, the options will be coming to Read Books, tag lists, Tagged Books, Owned books, and DNFs.
I’m very excited about this feature! I finally joined storygraph when I saw this was in “up next”
I frequently want to go back to books I’ve read over the last few years, to make recommendations or to find something to reread or to remind myself of authors/series I might want to read next.
Infinite scroll, even really fast infinite scroll, makes this super frustrating. I want to be able to look over a lot of books quickly and it’s just hard to do that when the page only loads small chunks of books at a time.
This would be great since I've noticed it gets very laggy after the first 20 books or so.
akblair We'll also be fixing performance on infinite scroll.
Think we're going to give people the option to toggle pages — with a few 'items per page' options or infinite scroll. Both options will be speedy eventually.
Pagination would also help very much with randomised TBR challenges. I love the idea of them but unless there's a lot of filtering involved I can't use them because my TBR is over 1k books long. With pagination I could then calculate what page the random number would be on and would have fewer books to count through.
Optional setting would definitely be a plus, especially if you can set the amount of books it shows per page, like one sees in one's inbox, perhaps. (No? Just me? >>; Oops. 😂)
It does help with navigation on lengthy tasks of sorting (tagging all books from last year, etc) to be able to add a URL appendix of "page=6" instead of having to scroll through all over again if you restart, reload the page, etc.
Possible as a toggle or other optional setting?
