I sometimes read different editions of books and will have unread edition in my tbr. I would like to be able to filter/exclude if I have read a different edition of the book in my tbr list. Similar how I can search/exclude if I already own the book in my tbr.

Is it possible to update the owned tag to distinguish between ebooks and print?

If possible, would love a monthly/yearly stat for the number of books that I've finished reading that were apart of (or I added to) challenges I elected to participate in for a given month or year.

It would be great if it was possible to have a button or simple process to turn a tag into a book-specific challenge. I have a tag that I use to track which books I'd like to put on my list for the next year. When the book-specific challenges came out I started making it a challenge - which has been great! - but it's a bit of work to set up and since I already have the tag, I'd love an easy way to just turn the tag into a challenge.

I'd like for there to be an easier way for plus members to get to the roadmap from the main storygraph page or account settings.

I would like to be able to make challenges that are private for myself AND selected friends on storygraph. I think this would work well for book clubs as well. While I like public challenges, I don't love that anyone who joins can add books. And that if you don't want a book listed in a challenge you created, it isn't something you can automatically remove.

The idea being that a specific group of people could set a combined reading total.
Reader 1: 5 books
Reader 2: 20 books
Reader 3: 50
Group challenge being the 75 book total. Itd be nice to have a reading group that can help each other read a little more.

It’s a bit disheartening to scroll through the giveaways and find that there are 12,000+ entries for 5 available books. It seems as though a lot of users just enter every single giveaway, while some users enter just for the books we are really interested in. If everyone was given, say, 10 giveaway entries per month, it would force people to only enter for those they really want, and would thus make the odds of winning a little less daunting.

Currently, poetry collections are tagged as fiction/nonfiction in addition to poetry. Fiction and nonfiction are prose genres, distinct from poetry; poetry is neither fiction nor nonfiction.

Personally, this means I don't really track my poetry on the app, as it messes up my stats for fiction and nonfiction.

This also means that works of literary criticism have their genre marked as poetry. In other words, both a collection of poems and a work of prose literary criticism can be marked as nonfiction poetry.

The same also applies for drama pieces. Shakespeare was not a fiction writer; he was a playwright: he wrote neither short stories nor novels; he wrote plays/drama. That should be reflected by the genre when you have read a play.

This would also make for deeper accuracy in the stats and allow better tracking.

Is there a way to convert an existing challenge into another format? Specifically converting an old challenge I made when the only choice was the prompts format into the books format? I don’t want to delete the challenge and start over because other people have joined

I would like a feature where you could keep track of reviews you've liked, and also have the reviews you've liked of a particular book be linked to your own review, kind of like Letterboxd does it. Obviously this is in the potentially distant future, but I wanted to throw it out there!

This feels like a big ask, but dreaming big here!

It would be neat to see suggested reading goals based on the previous years’ data. For instance on 1/1 when I go to set up my reading goals for the year, it might show something like “you average X books/pages a year and last year you read more books than usual. For a challenging goal, you might aim for X books/pages this year.”

Currently, when I go to find similar users, book series with a large number of books are warping the results. Yes, like most people my age, I read all books in the series of unfortunate events... so now I'm getting primarily matched with people who have also read it/favorited it despite having nothing else in common! Not sure how to fix, but it's definitely an issue in trying to find community here.

Any way to let users choose how streak is calculated? Ex: I only consistently log when I finish a book, and don't every make pages-read updates (in fact sometimes I even forget to log start date until I'm logging the finish). I wish the streak wasn't based on whether I've opened the app or logged pages-read on consecutive days. I'd love it if I could set my streak to calculate from last-finish-date-to-next-start-date. That way I only break my streak if I fail to start a new book the day of or day after I finish the last book. I know myself and there's no way I don't read daily, but I don't want to log pages read to "prove" it to the app.

The "View Question Bank" button on book pages can easily be overlooked because it's gray and inert. I think it would generate more interest if the button also showed a bold green number (maybe within a circle) to indicate the current number of questions (if greater than 0).

Use a local model to create a feature on public user's pages to create gift recommendations for someone visiting their page.

For example, if I am a user and I visit YOUR profile, there should be a "Gift me a book" section (maybe integrated with Bookshop and/or Libro.fm?) with recommendations driven by your read and/or to-read lists.

I think it would be really cool if the team used the existing robust metadata database and infrastructure to support LMS features comparable to something like Libib.

Libib is a physical library cataloging application that allows you to scan your books in and keep track of them digitally. There are a lot of cool features that branch from this, like tracking who you lend books to.

I know that currently you can already mark books as owned, so I think that leaning more into this LMS featureset would be really awesome.

When you click on the reviews by other users on a book, it would be nice to see the cover of the edition each user is reviewing.

This is particularly relevant to classics that are popular enough to have multiple translations for major languages (Homer, Dante, etc). Some translations are better regarded than others!

Right now unless the reviewer mentions which edition they reviewed, all you can see is a link that says "against another edition" which is useful but it requires clicking through to each link to see which edition they reviewed if they didn't mention it in the text.

Something similar to the thumbnails you see when you click on the Your Reviews page on your own profile would be great I think! I realise its a slightly niche request but I think it would be both useful to some users and makes the review page a little nicer too.

I would love to be able to categorize and/or sort my TBR! I know there is an “up next” option but that limits me to only 5 books and sometimes I don’t want my TBR sorting to be on the community feed.

Inside the preferences page on mobile, users can already choose between a compact or a detailed view for their current reads layout. I'd like if there was a similar option also for the book page where we can choose between the previous layout (more compact and small) and the newest one (bigger). One day this option could be extended to apply changes to all the buttons and texts on the platform as an accessibility feature, but for now it would make both who likes the new sizing and who doesn't happy.

I've found that recently the personalized AI recs are just comparing the book to my recent reads. It will simply say whether the book is like or unlike the last 15 or so books I read and ask if I'm still in that mood. I feel like I could very easily figure that out for myself. I really preferred the older version of the feature where it compared it to other books you have previously shelved, even from years back, from a similar genre/topic and tells you whether this book might be a good fit based on those parameters instead. Not sure if this is something that can even be changed, but I figured I'd ask!

An optional feature where reading past your reading goal builds up a surplus that counts towards your next streak interval (day, week, etc.)

For example: If my daily reading goal is 50 pages and I read 70, then the next day carries the 20 surplus and I only have to read the remaining 30. If I instead read 150 pages in a day, then the current and the next two days’ streaks will have been completed.

This way reading past your reading goal feels meaningful.

Please create more than one onboarding challenge a year for new features, using tags, using random, creating a challenge or joining one, participating in the community, etc.

When I compare stats (say across 2 years) the scaling used for the No. of books read in the charts for Genre, Tags, Authors, and Star Rating do not match. For example if I read a lot more books in 2024, the x-axis may extend to 6, but the x-axis for 2025 only extends to 4.

This makes it hard to visually compare stats based on the length of the bars. 3 books in 2024 would be the same length bar as 4 books in 2025, making it appear based on a glance that I read the same amount both years.
