Exact match not first in search results

Sometimes the exact match for a search does not show up as the first result. Attached is one recent example; I'm sure something like popularity is driving this particular case, but I feel like an exact match should supersede that.

We used to have an exact match and we got several complaints about it, especially with books where there could be tens or hundreds of books with a similar title or people couldn't quite remember the title of the book they were looking for.

Two things: if you add in (part of) the author's name to your search, you'll get the result you want at the top and we'll be soon introducing a dropdown as you type, which will help people get to the result they're looking for sooner.

Thanks for the quick reply. I was thinking more along the lines of some logic that allows one exact match to pop to the top of the current priority list, but do nothing else. That said, I completely agree that going to a strict match and no fuzzy find would be a huge step backwards. I'll keep your tips in mind, though!

Would it be possible to add a checkbox or something to the results that would allow users to short the results based on if they want to see exact matches or 'fuzzy best guess' ones?

I see a world where we have an advanced search in the future, where you can specify if you're searching for a book, author, series, etc. (all of which you can currently search for in that main search bar, by the way!), and maybe a checkbox like that will fit in here. In the meantime, working on improving our data, search ordering algorithm, and having the dropdown will be done first!
