Sometime in the last couple weeks or month the quality of my recommendations has really gone down.
I used to see many books that looked interesting, but now I'd say that about 95% are books that I have absolutely zero interest in reading. I've tried clicking the X to not include the book, but it just gets replaced with another book that I'm not interested in.
The books that are showing up are largely self published books or books from like 30+ years ago. And they often have less than 5 reviews and the few reviews only have like a single word like "Awesome".
I don't necessarily have problem with old books or even self-published books, but I'm not very interested in being a guinea pig. So it's kind of annoying when most of my recommendations consist of self-published/old and very obscure books.
This is a guess, but I suspect there may be some fake accounts that are flooding Storygraph with fake reviews.
For instance, this books is showing up on my recommendations:
I have no idea why this is showing up on my recommendations because it's not something I would ever read. But clicking on the user that wrote the one review:
Currently lists the user with 18 currently reading books and 241 recently read books that just seem random...
Here's another user I found through a recommendation for this book (again not one I'd be interested in): https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/b122357c-9153-4e74-bffc-88e118aac692
Again lots of books being currently read. About 5000 books recently read and 8000 on the to read list, which seems to be pretty random.
It's almost like the 5 stars are fairly popular and the other lists consist of fairly random books.
It seems that every single account I looked for these recommendations was very similar. They had 5 star reviews for reasonably popular books and then a bunch of random books in their other to read, recently read books, and currently reading.
