status in multiple editions not shown

This shows up in 3 ways (feel free to separate out into multiple posts if the implementation is very different):

  1. if you open an edition that you haven't read, it says "you've read another edition of this book." but if you've read two editions, they don't cross-link to each other.
  2. re-reads aren't tracked across editions (if you've read edition A and edition B, it doesn't list either under re-reads).
  3. tags and "owned" don't surface at all, so I've found myself accidentally buying an e-book for a book I already owned a physical copy of because I didn't manually check all the editions.

Recommendations only in English

Not sure if it's a bug, but all of my recommendations are in English, even if I specified I can read in eight more languages. I would like to be recommended books in all of my languages.
If it's not a bug, please consider this as a feature request.

Reading challenge not showing books as complete

I've been adding books to prompts on my reading challenges but they're not showing up as "prompt complete" even though I've read them. Example attached

New icon fails to load with no error message

I was trying to change my icon and I would load an image and the page would refresh, but my icon wouldn't change. I tried several times, removing the current icon to try to load the new one, but it would still just refresh and not load anything. I'm assuming that the file was too big, because I did eventually try a different image that loaded fine the first try, but there was no error message or anything to tell me what was going wrong.

Cannot decrease reading progress

If I accidentally fill in an incorrect value for my reading progress on a book, or if I for whatever reason want to reread something a part and revert my progress, the app doesn't let me do this. I can only make forward progress. Optimistic! ... but it doesn't reflect real-world usage.

No way to easily get back to Home on iPad in the PWA

On iPad, when I’m using the “app” I can apparently only return to home by using the back button. Sometimes that means a lot of backtracking.

Doubling of page

Sometimes the storygraph home page will load again underneath whatever page I already have up. It sorts itself out if I refresh, but I find it happening multiple times a week.

Recommendations in languages I don't read

Recently, I have had books in Dutch and German turn up in my recommendations. I might be able to struggle through simple books in those languages, but not by choice and I only have English set in my preferences.

Speaking of preferences, is there a way to exclude book TYPES? At the moment, an audiobook keeps sitting front and centre on the recommendations on the landing page. Since I find audiobooks marginally less appealing than the idea of DIY dentistry, I would love to be able to exclude audiobooks from showing up in my recommendations

"Silent" book failure regression
Shipped

I'm entering this as a bug because it feels like a very significant regression to me, in my usage pattern.

I add quite a few books, and "add by ISBN" seldom works for me. It was a minor nuisance but at least when it did fail, I used to get a message on my screen immediately that said "We were unable to import your book:

You can add the book manually by clicking the link below."

Last night, I was perplexed when 2 attempts to add books by ISBN failed with ZERO visible sign of failure. In one case, I tried 3 times, the other twice, because I did not know what was happening.

Then, just now, I noticed the red notification dot on my profile pic and saw two notifications for the failed imports. Because these notifications are now 10 hours old, I have to search the ISBNs to find out which books I was trying to add.

The old error message was much more visible and made it easier for me to manually add the book while the relevant external info pages were sill open, I hope some thought can be given to restoring that behaviour. Although it is probably less likely to happen going forward as I have bookmarked the "add manually" page to avoid wasting time trying to import by ISBN first.

Keyboard not appearing on iPad when pencil is paired

I have the storygraph on my homescreen, and the only keyboard I get when I open the “app” this way, is that tiny little one that I have to use my Apple pencil to open.

Exact match not first in search results

Sometimes the exact match for a search does not show up as the first result. Attached is one recent example; I'm sure something like popularity is driving this particular case, but I feel like an exact match should supersede that.

'Pace" is different by editions?

I have basically given up trying to understand how "pace" works at TSG, but this is a new wrinkle that seems like an actual bug. The same book is listed with different "pace" tags in different editions. If anyone (else) is (also) trying to compensate for the idiosyncrasies of the "pace" tag by trying to select books of a given "pace", this sort of inconsistency may present a new challenge

Time Zone not set by device clock

If I log my reading for the day past 8pm MST, it associates it with the next day. I have to manually chance the journal date back to today.

Translators are not authors

I consider this a bug, not a feature request, hence the placement.
Is there any way to stop TSG listing translators as primary authors, ahead of the actual authors? I tried adding a book and specifying the translator as "contributor" selecting "Translator" as the role - didn't work, as the screenshot shows. The Kobo listing goes to the other extreme and doesn't even mention Ms Bell, but that does confirm she was not a co-author.

I've seen this many times at TSG, and as much as I value the awesome work of translators, listing them as authors and almost invariably giving them "top billing" by listing them ahead of the actual author seems a touch ott.

Switching Editions causes you to lose progress when working down a list

It makes it hard to change editions and add books to challenges when the page keeps going back to the top and changing how I sort the books. Would it be possible to go back to where you left off? Saving a lot of time

Up Next Not Removed when Currently Reading

Basically what the title says. I noticed a book I’m currently reading isn’t removed from my up next section in my TBR list.

Filter for "Added to My Reading Challenges" Showing Books I Did Not Add

When I use the "added to my reading challenges" filter on my TBR, tags, etc. a lot of books are showing up that I have not added to any of my challenge prompts.

I'm not sure why all these extra books are popping up. So, especially when I'm trying to filter for books on my TBR to find my next read that will complete one or more prompts for my reading challenges, it's just cluttering things up.

When adding already read books to to-read

This may be a niche issue, but I will oftentimes add books I've already read in the past to my to-read list to remember that I want to re-read it. However, when I do this, the book will be listed as the earliest added book on my TBR as it will keep the added date from my first read - if that makes sense? Somehow I want it to appear as the newest added on the TBR instead, although I'm not entirely sure what logic should be used. Maybe there should be an entirely new meta date for "added to TBR" rather than just using the overall added date?

Recommendations not working?

I logged in an hour or so ago and found all my recommendations gone. I tried recreating my preferences as in the screenshot, but for some reason, ALL the recs were only SF, with 3 exceptions that were mystery. Of those 3 one was in French, one was in Dutch, and one was in English.

I like SF, and some of the recs seem like possibilities, but given that mystery is far away my number one genre, the weighting seems a bit odd, especially since only 1 is in my L1. Has the algorithm changed? Or am I doing something wrong?

Kobo ISBN imports fail

Thanks to Instagram, I know Nadia is a Kobo user, so I hope this problem can be added to to the to-do list: Trying to add digital editions by using the ISBNs listed on Kobo's site fails so often that successes are surprising
