I am on iOS 17.1.1. I am on the iPhone 15 Pro Max but this happened with my previous iPhone as well (12 Pro Max).
My phone system settings is set to dark mode. My theme in the app preferences is set to Dark. Whenever I leave the app closed in the background for a while and reopen open it later, I am blinded by a white screen.

Hi Nadia, I've noticed that when you drag down to refresh the app, you also get the white flash. It doesn't happen every time. I took a screen recording here - https://imgur.com/a/JgUS80v
ryanlane Yes, I've noticed too. Thank you! Sorry this still isn't properly resolved.
It started happening again iOS 17.2.1. App version 1.10. iPhone 15 pro max ☹️
ryanlane I've noticed too! So frustrating!
Can you all please check if this is still happening?
Nadia I just tried it and it did not flash white. I forced closed the app and tried again and it still didn’t happen.
leigh9192 As in it's working well for you now, yes?
Nadia it seems to be, yes
leigh9192 Woohoo!! I'll wait to see what the others say as well.
Nadia It is still occurring for me. It seems to only happen after the app has not been opened for a few hours.
ryanlane Have you force quit the app since trying again?
Nadia Yep, I also tried to delete the app and reinstall it
leigh9192 What type of phone are you using?
ryanlane Oh no, you should never have to do that. Thank you for checking though. Thought I'd fixed it once and for all. Guess not!
Nadia iPhone 14 pro, the flash seems to be fixed but I do have to repeatedly refresh the app or it wont save my progress when I update a book and it flashes then
leigh9192 Okay, this doesn't look like it's fixed then. You should never get flashes of white in Dark Mode. (And not sure about you having to repeatedly refresh the app, but that's a separate problem for another time.)
Nadia it’s fixed now for me!
ryanlane That's amazing. Keep me posted as I had started experiencing the problem myself, but just upgraded to the new iOS17.2 this morning, and yes, it doesn't flash 'white' upon opening any longer (though I sometimes get a flash of white when pulling to refresh). For now, I'll mark this as 'Shipped'.
