'Not A Book' Edits

It would be really helpful if we had more control over editing/updating things labelled as 'Not A Book.' I'm not sure how feasible this is, but I'd really love to be able to update the synopsis/blurb as details change. This is particularly relevant for serials or maybe even fanfiction that turns out to take a different twist and the description is updated by the author?
It seems like a hassle and waste of time to burden the librarians with updating something like this, since it's not actually a book in the catalogue, but it would be really nice to be able to update things like that ourselves.

Be able to change information such as pages to something like episodes. This would be helpful for reading platforms, such as kindle Vella that use episodes rather than pages.
Yes, 1000x! I'm beta reading a book right now (which probably won't be published for a while), and I basically can't add it to my tally until the book is complete and then go backdate the entries, because I don't know what the page count is going to be when the book is finished. Would love to be able to have full control of Not A Book's that I add for my own purposes.
jaina8851 I think the best way to track this would probably be entering it with the number of pages in your beta read copy, because it's likely to change based on feedback from beta readers and you could end up having 50+ more pages in your copy than are in the final copy once it's published. So I would just enter the page number from the copy you have and are reading now. Unless you are only getting a few chapters at a time.
The good news is, you can leave page count blank on your Not-A-Book's and go back and add it later, but if you leave it blank you do have to go in and manually add the page count to each one of your journal entires to get it to track properly for your page count on the stats page.
It would also probably be helpful if we had a button to click that would recalculate and update reading journal entries according to the new page count (when we update or add a page count,) similar to the 'Convert tracking of existing entries to pages' at the bottom of the reading journal page for audiobooks.
drusjella I don't think you can update page count without filing a book ticket, which is exactly what I want to do. The author writes it a chapter at a time and sends it out for feedback. So no page count I put in will be accurate for more than a few days. And I'm also skeptical that you can create a book without a page count... I tried doing it over the summer and had to put something in, and then when I tried to update it to increase the count, there was no field to do so.
jaina8851 This might be a recent update! But you can do it now!
Now there's an option to 'Add missing information...' at the bottom of a book page so if any information is left blank when you're creating the 'Not-A-Book' listing, you can update it at the end.
drusjella I finally just went in and tried to do this because it's 12/31 and I want this unfinished book to count in my page stats for the year :) If you leave the page count blank in a Not A Book, going to track status only lets you track percentage, even if you click "Add A Note". So in order to track pages read instead, I have to either:
All of which to say, please let us update page count and other aspects of Not A Books without bothering the volunteer librarians!!
jaina8851 yeah, unfortunately that will be the same regardless. So if you put 300 pages as the page count and later it updates to 350 pages because of an additional chapter or whatever, even if you update the page count, it won't auto-update all of your journal entries to count that additional 50 pages. You'll have to go update them one by one no matter what.
I wish there were an option to update journal entires when book stats like that are updated.
To Clarify - I'd like to be able to update things like page count, genre, synopsis/blurb/summary area, etc. Some of things that are usually locked down on books but can be edited by librarians. But I don't know if it's possible to implement this only for titles marked 'Not A Book.'
