Add More Moods

I think there's more to add overall, but specifically as a romance reader I would love to see additions like "romantic" or "steamy." I often struggle to review my romance picks accurately based on the current moods.

I would love a "cozy" mood
I also feel like I'm limited with the moods in my genres, like horror will be dark and tense, maybe dark and mysterious but does it help me pick a book, not really. I feel within a genre, there's not enough to specify what the book does to help you pick. I'll need moods like weird, epic, intimate, political + maybe emotional could also be split into the actual emotions like happy, sad, angry... I love the idea of the moods, but in current implementation they are virtually useless to me which is too bad!
What about "passion"?
As a reader of cozy mysteries and historical fiction, a “romantic” mood would be fantastic as the last several books I have read had a romantic element but were not romance books.
As a new reader of romance books, it would be helpful if “romantic” and “steamy” were added as a mood.
Yes! "Romantic" should absolutely be a mood and "steamy" would be great too. The current moods don't really fit romance novels at all. I always default to "emotional" but it's just not the same. :/
Some questions to voters on this story to help with my research:
Similar to other genres, I thought that the moods would still help you to find specific types of books within the 'Romance' genre. So, while a lot of 'romance' books might be tagged as 'emotional' (just like a lot of nonfiction books are tagged with 'informative',), it might not always be the case. Some might be mainly 'lighthearted', some 'funny', some 'dark', some 'tense', etc. I've certainly read some romance books that I've tagged as 'lighthearted', but not 'emotional'.
With the 'romantic' mood, is the thinking that all romance books would be tagged with that mood (which makes me wonder how valuable an addition it would be, beyond having the 'romance' genre tag)? Or is it a case that if 'romantic' was added, another mood would also need to be added, like 'steamy' and Romance books would typically have one or the other tag?
A review for a romance novel feels „incomplete“ to me without at least having the option of tagging it as romantic. I also wouldn‘t necessarily use this mood for all romance novels.
I‘d also like the option for other genres as well, because I love books (e.g. mysteries) with a romantic subplot and the mood would help me identify those. Somebody else also mentioned this.
It‘s really subjective and a personal preference, so I understand that it might not be worth the time and effort.
I think "romantic" and "steamy" are both important moods to have. And not all romantic books necessarily fall into the genre of Romance so having a romantic mood could carry over as a mood for other genres.
Steamy, though! At the very least, we need a steamy mood.
Thank you both for your thoughts on this! Really appreciate it!
No, thank YOU for listening. :)
This is why I really love this site! Even though some suggestions can’t/won’t be implemented, you never ignore or dismiss them right away.
It would also be nice to have a "romantic" mood or something similar, for books that aren't romance but maybe have a romance subplot.
I second this. I feel like a lot of books get categorized as romance because there happens to be a relationship in them. Having "romantic" and "steamy" moods would make it easier to differentiate styles of book.
We're thinking of having a steam rating instead for romance books!
If you're curious, here's how we came up with the moods list in the first place: https://www.instagram.com/stories/highlights/17980177477247922/.
We're not averse to adding more moods, but it's not an easy thing since there'll be a lot to do with regards to seeding books, adding it to our machine learning models, etc. It could take several months!
A steam rating would be really helpful!
I love this idea! I often note this for myself in journal entries or reviews so that I can make recommendations accordingly
