It would be great to have a way to navigate an author's backlist by series/published dates.

Any sorting on the author pages would be helpful, but what I want most is the ability to see if this author has any books that are already in my read/DNF/to-read lists so even a default sort that puts those at the top would be useful for me. I'm most often checking the author pages when deciding if I should buy a book and I need to know if I've enjoyed previous books by this author (or already have some languishing in my TBR).
Putting a comment here because I came to suggest exactly this and I'm glad I checked first! I was trying to find out what else Gregory Maguire has written but gave up because the author page is really difficult to navigate for authors with more than a handful of books. I'd love to be able to see books grouped by series and the option to filter out novella under 50 pages (for example) and books where they aren't a named author (which seems to be a common issue), or a way to sort by date or popularity. This might make it easier to find the information I'm looking for!
adding on here because my request seems like it would be part of "author pages". I would like to be able to make tags and a notes section for authors just like with books. I quite frequently add books to my TBR without much further research other than sounds good, i'll get to it at some point. Over the years, I have also come across problematic authors or authors that I don't enjoy for one reason or another, and I'd like to be able to add notes and make a DNR (do not read) tag. Ideally there would be some sort of flag on the authors name when looking at a book that highlights there is a note, but that would be icing on the cake, the ability to make the note / tag is my.
mere I think this actually would be a separate feature. I thought there was an Author Notes one already but I couldn't find it. There is this Author Tags one though: https://roadmap.thestorygraph.com/requests-ideas/posts/author-tags
I am really looking forward to this feature being deployed someday. As others have mentioned, it’s very difficult if an author does a lot of anthologies/magazines to find all of their novels/novellas. (Or if their name is relatively common.) Having to go to another app in order to sort through a simple list of their published novels, just so that I can come back to SG to add to my TBR is a bit of a hassle…. 😅
The separate post on author tracking would be AMAZING as well, but I would love to see that feature integrated into this one…and not the other way around. 🥰
Being able to sort on publication date would already help a lot.
It feels like what should be a core feature for a book tracking app is just not really a priority. The current version is basically unusable for authors who publish a lot in magazines/anthologies etc so I find myself having to go to amazon or elsewhere, just to find a list of novels by an author.
The Hardcover app does this really well, books are even organised by series. Their TBR list functionality is no good for me though.
I’d love to be able to click an author name, get a list of their novels (excluding everything else) and sort it by publication, popularity etc. Being able to get an alert when an author I like publishes something new as well would be amazing!
Navigating the author page is that much harder that a lot of them got dozens (or hundreds) of books by being referenced in short novel books or magazines. Even just being able to see upcoming books/last publications/most read would be awesome.
We will be developing proper author pages at some point! :-D
It's now 2024 and this still hasn't happened.
