I'd like to be able to create buddy reads where I don't invite specific people, so those who are interested can opt in.
I'd like a list of all open buddy reads, with some intelligent filtering so it's easy to find books I'm interested in.
Why I'd like this:
-
It's intimidating to invite strangers who I've had no interaction with to a read-along.
-
With the current method for finding people to invite, I think many invitations will be sent to people who aren't interested in a read-along right now, or in reading that specific book right now. (From my limited experience of trying buddy read once, two of the people invited haven't answered the invite.)
The ability to create open buddy reads could be a Plus feature, but everybody should be able to join them.
Sort now added to the new public buddy reads page. Filters, à la the public readalongs page, coming soon!
Public buddy read page is now live. Coming soon: sort, search, and filter options!
Yeahhhh hyped to see this in up next! No joke, I came here tonight to make a few recs and so far 3 of 3 are already mentioned and slated in up next. ^.^
jenniferforjoy This one should be out early April, post the launch of book clubs.
I love this idea! It would be helpful to see a list of current buddy reads and a pop up on the same “up next” suggestions that says “one of your books on your TBR is currently doing a buddy read. Do you want to join?”
There might be readers who are currently reading a book who would like to join in. It would eliminate the invited people who don’t respond.
I just turned my buddy preferences on and have not been in one so I don’t know if a person doesn’t respond, is it still locked for 4-5 people and no one else can join until those invited either accept or decline?
Right now, you'd have to delete the invite to non-respondents to invite extra people!
We've been thinking about adding this for everyone. Thank you for posting the suggestion here.
