Challenge creator x participant interactions

I just created my first challenge and it's great to see that people have joined already. I think it would be great to have some way of communicating with everyone in the challenge, without needing to become friends and with some checks in place to prevent spam (definitely allow participants to opt in/out). But I'm thinking some automated updates on the challenge page depending on the runtime of a challenge (e.g. monthly stats about how many people have joined, how many prompts have been completed etc.), but maybe also some kind of chat / discussion where people could post encouragement or share some thoughts about the experience? I see some creators link to a Discord for specific challenges, but that's a bit too much for me. Though it would be nice to occasionally just check in with everyone participating, directly in the StoryGraph.

One of the things we have on our current Community roadmap is to allow hosts to send broadcasts/in-app notifications to challenge participants.

Maybe at some point we'll have more of an ability for back and forth — we'd want to be very careful with that!

Hopefully the one-way communication will help a little bit for now. What do you think?

Nadia yeah that definitely sounds like a great start! It just feels a bit weird that you're all in this challenge together but there's no real way to connect beyond seeing the list of participants and the books per prompt. Maybe have emoji reacts for participants to those broadcasts as a minimal way of interaction at first? I think in future it could be nice to have some kind of discussion / reflection, a little like in a buddy read perhaps. Which prompts surprised you the most or what did you struggle with, a way for people to cheer each other on towards the end of a challenge, not sure. I just feel like some of those things could enhance the community feeling and make a challenge 'live' more (though I get that some people just want to read their books and not be bothered beyond that 😅)

joti We are definitely going to have enhancements to the reading challenges that make them feel more alive and social. We're just not sure what form that'll take just yet. What you're seeing on the reading challenges is still pretty much V1. There's a long way to go with them. Thank you for your ideas for more interaction!
