I agree that all of these are not genres, but I don’t think “formats” is the right way to track them either. After all, you can read digital versions of graphic novels as well. Perhaps one way to do this would be to be able to track “edition” separately from format. I.e. the format is “book” or “graphic novel” and the tracked edition would break down into “ebook” “paperback” “hardcover” etc. That would also allow us more granular data tracking that’s specific to the editions.

I’d love some genre customization as well because I’d like to combine “comic” and “graphic novel” and maybe “manga” when I’m looking at what I’ve read this year. Because it bothers me that some books show up under comic and some are under graphic novel with little reason as to why it’s different.

Agreed! I would add things like novel, novella, short story/collection, and graphic novel, too. Maybe even epistolary? Just more about the actual format of the book and separate them out from the genre. I would be nice to be able to search for romance novellas, for instance.
