A neat Plus feature is Tag stats which we can also compare against another Tag. This is an extremely powerful feature as I can curate lists of books, then compare and contrast them e.g. competition entries from one year to the next.
I would like to compare a curated list of books - i.e. the results assigned a particular Tag - against another TSG user in my Friends list.
Most of the data in the Tag stats will be identical - moods, pace, length, genre - but some are unique to the individual - format, language, and star ratings, plus whatever gets added in future. In this case it’s the ratings that I’d like to compare - how did we each liked a particular set of books, without having to delve into each book individually to collate the information manually: Tag a set of books, compare against a user, view how we compare.
This might be part of this request/work package: https://roadmap.thestorygraph.com/requests-ideas/posts/see-stats-for-all-users
So, for the Stats V4 work, Plus users are going to have ability to compare any slice of their stats against any slice of another user's stats — so you'd be able to take one of your tags and compare it against another user's 2023 Q1 reading, etc — but what you're saying here is that you want to have certain stats for the same set of books to be shown for each user, right?
Nadia Yes, please, exact some set of books compared between user A and user B, irrespective of time period!
For example, the query I’m attempting to answer is something like, “what did we think of the 2023 Arthur C. Clarke Award Nominees”?
So it’s hyper focused on particular books that I’ve selected based on some criteria I have in mind - in this case it was a Discord discussion where our reading has overlapped and I’m interesting in visualising our rankings and tastes.
I’m imagining that as some stats are identical - since the books are fixed - it’d start with a single column for the user-agnostic data (Moods, Pace, Length, Genre, etc) and then split into two columns with data specific to each comparison user - e.g. Date read, Format, Star rating. Similar to the two column approach when comparing two distinct tags.
This leaves room for adding any other parameters of interest that might separate us e.g. reading journal logs to graph the reading pace/reading time frame.
With respect to star ratings, I’d love to see a compact list of books (maybe w/ cover, or perhaps book title only) and star ratings for each individual book across the comparison users - like a table with columns for Cover/Title/User A Rating/User B Rating. That’s the ultimate summary data for our reading. I wanted to avoid going digging for ⭐️ per book for each individual book in the tag. But separate star rating graphs like we see in compared tags would be great too, though I’ll have to manually dig in.
tuftymctavish I've edited the title to more accurate reflect what you're asking for. Not currently planned work but I imagine it'll be part of the Plus offering one day!
Nadia Awesome, thank you! I’m bunging it onto the wish list while it’s fresh and active in my mind, as I’ll have totally forgotten next time it would be otherwise topical. No timeframe expectations at all as I can see how many requests there are on here already 😁 Having it in the pot is ideal.
