I read a lot of romance/romantasy and I'm always looking for my next read. One of the most useful things I can do is find readers who like the same books I do and then look at what else they've loved.
Here's how this plays out today:
I'm considering a book. It has a 4.2 overall rating. I go to the reviews and see someone say "this is one of the best reads of 2026 for me." I want to know — does this person have similar taste to me? So I click on their profile and I can see their shelves and ratings. But there's no easy way to answer the actual question: do we rate the same books similarly?
What I'd love to see:
A "Compare Taste" option on any user's profile that shows:
- Books we've both read, with our ratings side by side
- A taste-match score — something like "of the 50 books you've both read, you agreed on 10 out of 12 of your favorites" or a simple percentage
- Their high-rated books I haven't read — if we're a strong match, these are my best leads for what to read next
Right now I have to manually scroll through someone's shelves and cross-reference with my own, which isn't realistic. An actual comparison view would make the social/discovery side of StoryGraph way more useful.
This isn't about mood or genre similarity — it's about whether two people actually rate the same books the same way. That's the strongest signal for whether I'll like something they recommend.
