allow toggling through different versions of the same book under one umbrella book, as opposed to multiple separate unique books. Including audio books

As an avid audiobook listener I would love this!

This issue might be my #1 wish for this site right now! It seems that more often than not when I search for a book, the 1st listing that comes up is not marked on my TBR, but will have the note below that another edition of the book is on my TBR. There are separate listings for hardcover, paperback, audio etc... whereas I would prefer one listing, and then the option within the title to further select what format. I assume that this has something to do with the import of my data from Goodreads, as I have sevreal thousand books on my TBR that originated from GR.

@Abbie I'm going to add another layer to this issue that I just noticed. Some weeks ago I added a book that I hadn't read yet to a prompt on one of my reading challenges. Then I recently finished reading that book, but I noticed when I checked that reading challenge, it hadn't counted the book. After investigating, it didn't count the book I just marked as "read" because the version I marked as "read" was a different edition than the one I had added to my reading challenge several weeks ago. Editions don't matter so much to me, except for page counting. What matters more to me is the book was read/TBR/added to a challenge, etc. If folks are picky about tracking what version they read, couldn't they do so by changing from one version to another under the umbrella of that book? Instead of always having to pay attention to which version of the book they clicked on?

This would be great!

@Abbie, @Mthereader, yes! That is exactly what I have noticed. It seems the reviews are (usually!) the same on both editions, but it's not super clear why they're different 'editions'. I assume a lot of the time it has to do with format, in which case I think it would be easier to choose the format you read from one central landing page per book.

I assume that when the reviews are different, that's the incorrect info that you mentioned!

And to clarify, when I mention reviews, I mean specifically say, the number of reviews present on each edition, which I find a helpful indicator of whether or not the two editions are considered the same book or not.

Hi @Abbie,

I can't speak to @joelleshii's thoughts, but the reason I upvoted this idea is because I will search a book that I know I have marked as read or want-to-read, (for example - Elegance of the Hedgehog by Muriel Barbery) and the first result is correct, except that it shows I have not read it. It only says, below the "to-read" button, that I have read another edition of this book. And I click that link and it takes me to another page for the same book where it does say I've read it. I would think the site should say I have read (or want to read, or DNF'd, etc.) this book, regardless of what edition, when I click on that book.

Hi joelleshii!

Please could you elaborate a little on this? All books which are different editions should be together under one default book already! There are outliers where books should be grouped together but aren't. If you spot any of those about the site, you could let us know using the 'flag incorrect info' button on the book's page and just alert us that there are two separate families of a book which need consolidating!
