Different editions for rereads
S
seitic

I often reread books using a different edition the second time. For example, first read was digital but second read is audio. As it is now, when you switch editions, the edition changes for all reads. Would love to be able to distinguish them. Thanks! ๐Ÿ’–

The best thing to do here is to start the second reread by marking the different, second edition as 'currently reading' and then 'read', rather than starting the second read on the same edition as the first. Then there's no need to use the 'switch editions' feature. Eventually we'll have it so that the reading history relating to rereads displayed on a book's page accounts for all different editions read.

Nadia This is great advice going forward, thank you! For all the books I read back in my teens (when the only tablets were cuneiform), then re-read in digital format in the last few years, how do I fix the problem of rereads I've already entered wrongly?

robinwalter Do you mean that you want to move the first read to a different format?

Nadia It turns out that of the dozens of re-reads I have listed a great number have no edition information at all. I just checked a dozen or so Ngaio Marsh and a few Dick Francis, and every single one of them has no edition information. This means I need to find a paperback edition for the first reread and a digital edition for the second read, right?

robinwalter Yes โ€”ย find or add information yourself where appropriate! You can just mark as 'read' the first edition and then add in the finish date, and either take off the first reread from the second edition or find another edition for the second read. Be careful if you ever use "Remove book" that you don't delete any review data you have!

Nadia Thanks for confirming I'd grokked the process
