Maybe there are niche cases where editions of the same book legitimately need to have different genres. However, in practice what I often see is a lot of inconsistent genre info among different editions within the same family.

It would be really nice if the "genre" field did not appear on the form at all when people are adding new editions to an existing book family (or when librarians are editing a non-main book).

That way, if anyone wants to fix a book's existing genres, they will always have to submit a book ticket to fix the entire family, instead of adding an edition with their preferred genre, which won't affect the rest of the book family.
