It would be awesome to filter your to be read pile by the average rating of the book to know where to start.
here to bump this cause I constantly wish I could sort my read books by rating (when someone asks me for a rec I simply forget every book I've ever read, so being able to look for a 4.5 + star romance would be ideal!). and also being able to sort my to-read pile by avg rating to find those hidden gems!
This is a big one for me! With how long my TBR is I often wish I could filter or sort by average user rating. Particularly because of how granular the star ratings are allowed to be on Storygraph I find the ratings much more helpful than elsewhere.
For example I know I want to read another romance from my TBR, but I have 200 on there, what if I just want to see the ones with an average rating over 4 stars?
I understand not wanting to put an emphasis on ratings, but I also get frustrated with having to click on and load the page for a book and then scroll down to find the rating and then go back and repeat for multiple books I’m comparing between when choosing what to read.
Also, as others have said just being able to easily filter and sort my Read books by my own rating would be helpful. I currently get around this by clicking on the graph on the stats page so I can at least see my read books with all the same Star rating and work through them that way but it’s still a bit tedious.
I would really like a filter by rating for the To-Read pile too... One of the things I enjoy doing on GR is sorting books by rating AND then checking books with more than 10K reviews for example - both popular and enjoyed by the community.
Just wanted to add to this since my reasoning for using this filter are a little different from the comments above - I participate in a lot of booktube readathons and a common prompt is to filter your tbr by rating and read the lowest or highest rated book, and I think it would be fun to have the option.
Adding this suggestion here to avoid creating an extra card: it would be great to have a range of options when filtering by rating — e.g. a dropdown like "Rating: [is exactly/is lower than/is higher than/is between] [number field]" added to my Read list. (I often want to browse all the books I ranked higher than 3 stars, for example.)
More than the to-be-read pile I would like to sort my read pile based on rating. Unlike with the TBR we wouldn't be making any decision based on that filter (and thus there wouldn't be the problem of putting too much emphasis on ratings to influence future reading) but it would give a fun comparison between what our tastes/ratings are for each book read vs the average user on Storygraph.
laraneves We'll definitely give you a way to sort your read books by your own rating. I was sure it had been suggested on this roadmap before but I couldn't find a post!
Hey Sydney! We are a little bit wary about putting too much emphasis on star ratings, since a 2 star rating for one person could be a 5 star rating for someone else if they were in the mood for something dark and fast-paced, for example.
But note taken, of course. :-)
I would love if this was a feature JUST for myself! I was looking to recommend a graphic novel (I have a tag for gn) but I couldn't sort my "Read" list by star, and there wasn't a way to filter for only 4/5 star reads either
We will have the ability to filter your own lists by rating at the very least! :-D
