When someone provides their storygraph profile some websites like instagram or tiktok open their own browser and they make you sign in before viewing the profile. I feel like the page should show the profile instead of making you sign in, then allow us to open the profile instead app.

It'll be based on the user's privacy settings. So if their profile is "Standard" or "Private", you'll have to be signed in first.
