Mobile Push Notifications

Now that the app has a Notifications area, I would really like for mobile push notifications to be implemented in the app. Otherwise I may miss a notification if I don't check that area of the app often.

Push notifications now go out for all in-app broadcasts (one about Jan Pages going out soon) and wrap-up generation.
You have to be on the latest version of the app to receive them and you should be prompted to give the app permissions when signed in and on the homepage.
Push notifications are not opening up in the right location at the moment. A problem for another day!

Nadia When my phone asked if I wanted to give push notification permissions to the app I may have freaked out a little. Thank you so much for being awesome. I know I'm not even close to the only one who asked for push notifications, but the efforts you're making on this and the time you take to respond to your users really makes me feel personally invested in the app. I tell EVERYONE about Storygraph and I'm so excited at the influx of readers switching from Goodreads.

For the New Year, we want for there to at least be a basic 'on/off' push notifications setup for all current in-app notifications. Throughout 2025, we'll add more and more granularity to the push notifications preferences.
Hi! I would like to add notifications about admin posts in book clubs, or another way to notify about important club posts, like book nominations for polls etc.
I know I can create a new forum for this, but that will clutter the forums completely.
I would definitely like to choose which buddy reads/readalongs I receive notifications for. For example, I wouldn't want notification for most book clubs of public buddy reads - I'll just open the app and check via in-app notifications.
But when I buddy read a book with one of my real life friends, I would want to know when they post something.
This pleeeaaase! I definitely need them for Buddy Reads, though I totally get your point about keeping the app from becoming a stressor. Even if it was just an email notification that would be helpful. I have done a few buddy reads with people where I feel like I'm not getting much interaction because people forget to come back to it. I also feel like notifications for the new Book Club feature will be helpful, especially to managers of said book clubs.

It'll enhance other existing features too.
And we'll make them highly customisable, including the ability to easily turn them all off!
Saw this was on the 2024 roadmap. A new notification that would be useful would be Streak reminder notifications, a daily reminder to log your daily pages before your streak expires.
Yes, everyone please share your ideas for all the things you want notifications for, especially where it's like I want to be able to say "I want buddy read notifications for X but I don't want buddy read notifications for Y", essentially letting me know about the granularity of customisation that you'd like
What about making push notifications optional? They could be turned off by default and you would have to specifically turn them on if you want them. They would be really nice for buddy reads.

Thank you for the suggestion! We're still focused on making StoryGraph a quieter space, that doesn't lead to more social media/app burnout, so push notifications, if they were ever delivered, would likely be a longer-term addition!
