Pagination for book lists: paged view instead of infinite scroll

I'd love it if the shelves/book lists had actual pagination and not just infinite scroll.

Update from Nadia: Original title used to be "Pagination for book lists". I've edited it now to make it easier for people to find. (2024/03/08)

This would be great since I've noticed it gets very laggy after the first 20 books or so.

akblair We'll also be fixing performance on infinite scroll.

Think we're going to give people the option to toggle pages — with a few 'items per page' options or infinite scroll. Both options will be speedy eventually.

Pagination would also help very much with randomised TBR challenges. I love the idea of them but unless there's a lot of filtering involved I can't use them because my TBR is over 1k books long. With pagination I could then calculate what page the random number would be on and would have fewer books to count through.

Optional setting would definitely be a plus, especially if you can set the amount of books it shows per page, like one sees in one's inbox, perhaps. (No? Just me? >>; Oops. 😂)

It does help with navigation on lengthy tasks of sorting (tagging all books from last year, etc) to be able to add a URL appendix of "page=6" instead of having to scroll through all over again if you restart, reload the page, etc.
Possible as a toggle or other optional setting?
