My partner and I don't like to publicly rate books, but think it would helpful to have some kind of personal rating system where we, for example, mark books as "liked," "ambivalent," or "disliked."

This way when we go back and look at our read books it's easier for us to remember (and then recommend) what we enjoyed without having to publicly rate the books.

This is actually a really interesting idea! I'm not normally a reviewer in general, I just don't enjoy rating things. I'll only usually review and rate books I really enjoyed which have few to no reviews.

However, this year I have started trying to add star ratings to all my reads, in order to get some nice data at the end of the year about what I liked most etc.

It would be nice to be able to do that just for me to see, without having to leave a public rating/review of the book that impacts the books star rating etc.

Should note, for me I think I'd prefer it to just be a star rating like normal.

I feel like you could leverage tags for this to pretty good effect. You can make a tag public if you want to be able to look at each other's (though you'd have to save the link to it, I don't think there's a way in-app to look at other people's tags), and if you are a plus member, the tag stats would probably be really cool to be able to compare what things end up in "liked" and what things end up in "disliked".

jaina8851 There isn't a way yet to look up/save/follow other's tags, but there will be, and this is a great solution to this pain point for now!
