My name is Kateryna. I’m a big fan of The StoryGraph. I actively recommend it to my friends because I believe you’re building a community-centered platform. That’s incredibly important. It reminds me of what Letterboxd is doing in the film world.
I wanted to share a couple of thoughts, and I hope you’ll find my feedback helpful.
I enjoyed your experiment with the AI feature that predicts whether I’d like a book or not. However, since I’ve only added books I’ve read in the past year or two and haven’t uploaded my full reading history, the recommendations are not very accurate for me. That inspired me to start a big rating spree. I want to log all the books I’ve read, which are well over 1500 titles.
But there’s one thing stopping me. The Community feed. If I start rating books like that, I’ll end up spamming all my followers and friends with constant updates.
That’s why I’d love to suggest a new feature. Maybe a filter for what kind of updates people see in their feed. For example, only reviews or reading progress. Or maybe bulk rating activity could be excluded entirely from the feed.
My second piece of feedback is shorter but very important. I recently followed your TikTok page and noticed one of your videos used a russian song. Please avoid promoting music from an aggressor country. Clicking on a trending sound might have seemed harmless, and I’m sure you didn’t know at the time, but it caused real pain for your Ukrainian users.
Thank you!
Thank you for your post and feedback. We have a limit on how many feed items will show up. Also, if you just rate books outside of changing read status, those don't show up in the feed, so rate away. There'll be no spam. Still, you will have a way to filter the News Feed, especially when we start adding more types of updates!
