Related to pausing: slow reads

I’d love a feature that allows me to read a book over the full year without that affecting all of my stats—showing me reading much more slowly than I really do. An example: I’m about to start reading Diana Henry’s Around the Table, which is 52 essays. I want to read one each week—but it’ll wreak havoc with my stats. And I want to do the same with Nature’s Calendar and The Hidden Year.

I would really like the option to just exclude it from your "Average Time to Finish" stat and not the rest! Currently I've addressed this wrap-ups by just not putting any dates read on my intentionally slow reads but I'd love to still see the books in the yearly stats.

Oh!, or if there was an option for slow reads that converted to my average reading pace for other reads, that could be a solution I’d embrace. Or a doesn’t count in read stats IF such books were still counted in the annual total.

What about a "don't count in stats" checkbox? That would exclude the slow / ongoing reads from the general stats.

I agree with this! I think my ideal would be that it calculates the dates between currently reading dates, rather than from the first reading date, because if I unpause a book after a long time then it messes up my stats (as OP said).

Maybe?? I'm doing the same high, but it feels really awkward, and I forget, and I kind of hate it. I think I want a slow read option where stats related to speed compile separately/differently, even though tags, challenges, etc. remain the same. Not being a coder, I really don't understand the scope of what I'm asking for, but... yes, as I sit with it, that is my fantasy. Two speed lanes, both moving in the same direction.

pnwlisa You don't have to worry about the scope or complexity of what you want ever! You just need to tell me your dreams and fantasies, as you are doing. :-D

And it didn't fully click before that even if you pause, 52 days is still a long time, as @mustbeinwantofawife has now pointed out!

Will the pause feature not help with this? I'm reading one chapter of The Artist's Way on Sunday each week and am pausing after updating my progress.

Nadia iirc from your newsletter The Artists Way is 12 chapters, so that wouldn't push my stats up by too much (my average time was 5 days last year). But even with pausing the book, reading an essay a week for the whole year is still going to take 52 days. That is definitely gonna push my stats waaaay up lol. An option may be the ability to exclude one particular book from those stats?
