Sometimes the number of books within a series is different in the translations.
For example, in Germany a lot of fantatsy ans science fiction books get cut into 2 books. Like... "A Game of Thrones" is "Die Herren von Winterfell" and "Das Erbe von Winterfell". Currently the series shows "A Song of Ice and Fire #1a and #1b" here. But if a mostly German reader would click on the series name, they get
- A Song of Ice and Fire #1 (English)
- A Song of Ice and Fire #2 (English)
- A Song of Ice and Fire #3 (English)
- A Song of Ice and Fire #4 (English)
- A Song of Ice and Fire #5 (English)
- A Song of Ice and Fire #6 (English)
- A Song of Ice and Fire #7 (English)
- A Song of Ice and Fire #2a (German)
- A Song of Ice and Fire #4a (German)
- etc.
This makes it pretty confusing to find the next book in reading order. Also the more language editions are added, the more chaotic the series overview becomes. (I stumbled into some Manga series pages where I couldn't make any sense out of the information because I only know German and English, but not Japanese. And sometimes with Manga the German edition is not shown on the series page but "hidden" in the editions of the Japanese issue.)
I think it would be cleaner to have a separate series page per language.
Someone here already suggested that books can be added to more then one series so that order of publishing and chronologically order can be portrayed. That would help with the language too, I think.
But it could be cleaner on the long term if books and series get a language sub category as this would make it possible for users to get the site filtered only for books in languages they speak?
Thank you for all of these notes! We need to work on our series data, features, and tracking functionality on the whole and this issue will definitely factor into it!
