When I click on a series, I wish I could see more information than just the specific books. For example,
-
Does the series have to be read in order (like most fantasy series) or can it be shifted around (some detective or romance series)
-
Are these books direct sequels/prequels or are they just set in the same world or follow former side characters?
-
Is this series finished or is it expecting another book
There could be fun stats too, like the average time it takes readers to get through the entire series, how long they typically wait between books, etc.
I think ratings for the whole series would be great too. Maybe the first book is 5 stars, but the 2nd is 2 stars and the third is 4 stars? I'd love to know if people think the series is worth reading without risking spoilers.
It could also have stats of its own, like series vs standalones, pie charts for series types or lengths, things like that
Merged into the "Series Tracker" post as for that to work well a prerequisite is better series info.
I'd love to see something for series that are part of an expanded world too. Like if there are series that can be read alone, but tie together, to have the option to view a world reading order. Or other alternate orderings. I think of Narnia and Discworld, where there are some VERY different opinions on what order those books should be read in.
That would mean more work for librarians. But a simple checklist might work really well for the options you stated.
