Tag Updates

Apologies as this is a post mostly about the overall tag capability and several aspects relating to it. Hoping in future we can see:

  • ability to tag specific editions
    • I use tags to indicate where I procured the book (home collection, library, gift, libro.fm, audible) as well as format (graphic audio, audiobook, magazine, physical, ebook). This is really only a problem when I do a reread. I might have read a physical copy i owned the first time, then took out the graphic audio version from the library next time.
  • ability to edit existing tags. ex. i mark books by author gender and want to change all my "woman" tags to "femme", and all my "man" tags to "masc".
  • ability to delete tag options, i misspelt something once and that tag lives forever in my list gumming up my drop down 😅
  • ability to have tag groups. I saw this one in another post, but the ability to have be able to have Canada as two separate tags, one for setting and one for author location.
  • mass editing. I think i've seen this one too, but I'd love to be able to apply the same tag to a large swath of books. ex books i own, or took from the library.

Hello, thank you for your feedback! However, as you mention, a post like this can never be delivered because it's just a general list of feedback. I'd recommend adding comments to existing stories — I think most of these already exist in the app (delete tags, edit tags), or the roadmap (bulk edit, tag groups, etc.) — or making new posts! I'll eventually archive this post once you've confirmed receipt of this message!

I think a few of your suggestions are actually possible already! For example, you can edit the tag by navigating to its page, either via your profile or by clicking it on a tagged book, and clicking the edit icon next to the tag name. You can delete a tag this way as well. You can also have different tags on different editions of a book in the same book family—I currently have the exact situation you describe, where I own both a print and e-copy of a book, and the two editions are tagged differently.
