Written reviews?

Maybe I'm using the "anything else you'd want to add" incorrectly. But I get a lot of ARCs from netgalley, and I only really keep goodreads so I can post the reviews I write for Netgalley. I would love to shift these over to Storygraph, instead, but the format for seeing reviews doesn't show written reviews, which makes it less of a desireable place for me to post the review for publishers. Plus, it takes quite a few clicks to see what other people have said about a book, making other people's reviews less useful to me (though I love some features, like content warnings and what not, SG does that SO WELL!!!). I would love to be able to use Storygraph this way so that I can completely stop using GR and still feel like I am doing my job to publishers!

"...but the format for seeing reviews doesn't show written reviews" — can you please explain what you mean? Thank you!

Nadia Yes of course! So let's say I pull up a book I am interested in possibly reading (this is all on desktop). I can see the 'Community Reviews' where it shows the star rating, the moods, etc. On the side, it says "People You Follow," where it says how many people have interacted with the book. None of this shows anything that people have written. If I want to read a written review, I woudl have to go to "See All Activity." When I click that, it only shows me the star rating and categories people I followed have marked for this book. If I wanted to see anything they've written, I have to click "See Full Review" on their review, which is a) only applicable for people I follow, and b) doesn't even show if they wrote a written review. So I feel like me using SG for my netgalley reviews is really not helpful at all to publishers, since people would have to follow me and take those steps for my written review to be seen.

madlyreading Okay! And so just checking: it's too much of a pain to click on "11,222 (ex) reviews" link to see all of the written reviews on one page?

Nadia Ok I am realizing I had not tried that. Thank you!

If you click on someone's profile, and go to the "Read Recently" section, there is a button that says "Reviews" and it goes straight to all their reviews, written and not.

On a book's page you scroll down to "Community Reviews" and click on the "xxx of reviews" link under the average star rating and it takes you to all the reviews of that book both written and not. And then there is a check box to sort by only reviews with "written explanations".

If you go to the Community tab, and are looking at your News Feed, updates by your friends will be there and if they rated or reviewed there will be a button on the update that says "See Full Review". And if they wrote a written review it will come up.

I find it easier to share my reviews from SG with authors, pr teams, and publishers because they have an easier to find dedicated review page vs goodreads on the app.

I will say, as someone that has been doing reviews for 3ish years now, you won't ever stop using GR completely because the more places you post your reviews the better and GR is still a popular platform. Some of the teams I work with don't require it, but most request it.
