Custom Chart for Personal Review Elements

Can there be a chart that shows personal review elements for a book, versus the Storygraph review elements? By review elements, I mean the review of what moods, pace, genre, etc. I would like to see my stats using my own reviews, and then comparisons of the review elements that Storygraph uses. There is a couple of charts featured in the Pro version on the prior year wrap, but it would be awesome to have this all the time.

Distinguish journal entries for different reads

I started rereading a lot of books. And in the journal entries page for each book, if I'm reading the same edition, it would be nice to be able to filter which journal entries are for which reads. This would be especially helpful for long books where one might have dozens, if not hundreds, of entries.

Add Calibre Sync

Ability to sync your calibre library with StoryGraph (and back the other way) including star ratings, notes, tags, dates read, etc.

Copy Book Cover

I would love a way to quickly copy a book cover from the app so I can paste it into Canvas (or something similar). I used to screenshot and crop, but now the app no longer allows it, which means I have to leave the app and pull a pic from another app/site.

"Try again" feature for DNF Books

Sometimes I'll try to read a book, throw it on pause (love that feature) and come back a month later to clear out my paused book and some time after THAT decide.... I should finish that book.
I'd love a feature to resurect or, try again with a DNF book, where it starts tracker where you left off, rather than beginning the tracker at 0, and adding all the pages between to your read count.

The other issue I have with the current system is that it counts a DNF'd book as completed. If you go back and finish the book it counts THAT as completed as well, so you have 2 completions for the same book.

There could be an option when you finish the book for Why you DNF'd and Why you returned.

Ability to filter books by specific page number range

I would love to find books that are between a certain number of pages (perhaps I can set a specific range).

Warrant Canary?

Does The StoryGraph have warrant canary and if not would you be willing to set one up as a protection to account holders and a signal to media/journalists?

Given the current political environment federally and in many states, I'd hate for The StoryGraph to be served a subpoena for account records and also be barred from publicly acknowledging it.

I know it's an old school tool, but I'm hoping businesses and service providers might revive the practice. Thanks for considering!

Filter Request: Owned Books Not on Your TBR

You can already filter your TBR by their Owned status but not your Owned books by their TBR status. I happen to have a lot of books catalogued as owned on TSG that I don't necessarily want to read and that aren't on my TBR, and being able to filter for those would be very useful. Thank you <3

Hide 'books read' counter for the year/month

It would be great if we had the option to hide total books read in the period we are viewing for graphs.

It would be great for those of us who are trying to take the self-inflicted pressure off reading. Even though I've not set myself a goal this year, I can still see how many books I've read when I open the graphs and can't help but compare to last year.

I know we could count up the numbers on the graphs, but it would be nice to have the option to hide it anyway 😊

(P.S. thanks for all your hard work)

Mood/pace update automation

Disclaimer: I know it's not the first time it's been mentioned and the possibility of this purely depends on tech stack/cost.

So many books on TSG have significantly wrong pace/moods that were set when the book only had a few reviews and over time more accurate data was collected.
Currently every change requires a separate ticket to Abbie which seems very inefficient and time consuming both for her and for people who are bothered by incorrect tags.

Would it be too costly to have an automated background job that runs every time the review with mood/pace is added to a book, so that the tag data is always accurate?

User choice for percentage display

It would be great if users could have an option to choose how their progress percentage is displayed either bar or button. I personally prefer the previous button version vs the progress bar.

Make percentage number is more visible in progress bar

At the moment when a user has only read a little bit of a book at the beginning, there are a situations where the Green progress bar cut through/makes the percentage number very difficult to read. Basically the green progress bar splits up the percentage number, which can sometimes make it very difficult to read. i’m taking an example of a book. I just started today. That is at 10% and it’s pretty difficult to see the one next to the zero because of the green progress bar.

Tag and Filter AI books

We are starting to see books being written, graphic novels being illustrated, and audio books being narrated by generative AI. I believe that the best way for us combat generative AI is by not supporting authors who admit to using generative AI for covers, story or audio books. This could be hard to do because authors who use generative AI aren't upfront about it.

I propose that librarians can add tags to books that authors admit to using generative AI for. Having authors admit to this is the only reliable way to tell unfortunately, otherwise, this becomes a witch hunt.

Adding books to challenges

It would be great when we are in the challenges to be able to add books from our reading or read list. instead of having to go in our read list and than adding it to the challenge.

Filter books by star ratings

I add anything that sounds mildly interesting to my tbr so I like to clean it up occasionally and being able to filter on average star ratings would help me to decide if a book is worth it or how to prioritise my tbr.

Showing challenges on user profiles

I noticed with the recent profile redesign updates that have started rolling out that only annual reading goals are shown on a user's profile page. All other public challenges a user has joined or hosted are no longer visible on their profile.

I looked at the mobile and desktop profile design sneak peeks and it appears this is a permanent change. If so, I will miss being able to see a user's joined or hosted challenges. I've found lots of interesting challenges on users' profiles that I wouldn't have thought to search for in the challenge directory. I also found it motivating that my challenges and progress were visible to others.

Are there any plans to eventually incorporate challenges back into profile pages? Like a link to view more challenges under the reading goals section? Or giving the user the option to choose what challenges are visible on their profile?

Add date range to compare stats

Add the ability to pick a custom date range, YTD, quarters, MTD, etc. in the compare stats on plus, not just the year or month as a whole. I’m interested in comparing my progress year over year and currently I have to go into each month to get the numbers and calculate them elsewhere.

See friends’ reading even if they don’t rate

Right now I only see an update of a friend if they write out a review, but I want my feed to show anything they mark as finished

Ability to exclude books from wrap ups

I love the wrap ups but have recently had various books I would have excluded from the wrap up - re-read and bonus chapters that I logged. It would be great if there were some option to exclude things from wrap ups.

Toggle to Hide Short Stories on Series Page

One of the series pages I frequently look at has lots of short stories, and it makes it difficult to find the main books in the list. My particular example is the InCryptid Series by Seanan McGuire.

I'd love a feature at the top of the page to toggle and hide anything tagged as "short stories".

Save Personalized Previews

The Personalized preview is so helpful but I hate having to regenerate it if I close the app. Saving these for a set amount of time, say for a year, would reduce the amount of A.I. use (less A.I. tge better) and could be helpful for the future when looking back at reading history. Similar to the genres and moods data in the end of year recap, but with more details and recommendations.

Overview and tools for adding old reading data.

I would like a more intuitive way to add or correct older data in my reading history.
Currently, my reading journal is a mix of books with daily/weekly updates, books with start and end dates only or other books with only end dates.
This is mainly due to transferring my data from outside Storygraph so older data is not as good as newer data added to Storygraph. I’ve tried going back through my data and manually fixing start and end dates, but I stopped because I don’t feel like I have good visibility on what effect my changes are having. In particular, on reading stats (yearly/monthly) and streaks.

I can of course go check my stats and recalculate streaks after each change to see but I feel like there could be a better way.
If I had a few tools like:

  • Ability to see/edit reading journal entries across selected dates.
  • Access to a graph that show pages/books read on selected dates.
  • Ability to add journal entries for books read a decade ago.
  • If we know our reading pace this could allow users to smooth out their streaks (daily/weekly etc.)
  • Allowing data points on the graph to be clicked to see the book/page data underneath.
  • Allow easy refreshing of these tools so as not to lose “place” or context.
  • Add some documentation on what counts as pages read (100% vs page count vs page number and how they interact).
  • And documentation on how to manage/curate your reading history using these tools.

Hopefully, this makes sense on what I’d like to see. Let me know if I can add clarification.

love child of book list + book club?

I'm interested to merge the ideas of a book club with a curated, hand-picked suggested reading list:

Partly book club functionality (folks with similar interest reading similar/same books and interacting in the forums or maybe answering interesting Qs from the moderator).

Partly tags/book-list functionality (selected titles curated by the moderator, and possibly with polls or admin-rights to let the group suggest or vote on titles)

But without requiring meetings or specific dates, in order to get a book on to the curated list. (Which doesn't seem to be possible with book club functionality right now. I think?)

Line chart for Average time to finish

I would like to see a chart that would show the average time to finish for each month in a selected year, similar to the number of pages and books read in the yearly stats.

And maybe have similar chart for years as well. So, when you switch to All time stats, the chart would show years instead of months and the average time to finish per year.
