Filter Reading Challenge Prompts

It'd be really nice to be able to filter the prompt book lists on reading challenges.

Often when I go to a challenges page I click on one of the prompts to filter it by things like Owned Books, On To-Read Pile, Not Part Of A Series, Page Length, Mood, etc only to remember that you can't.

It'd just be a lot easier and quicker for me to find books for that specific prompt that I'm in the mood for and can easily get my hands on if there was an option to filter them :)

Yes! When I click on a challenge prompt to see the books other users have added, I would LOVE to be able to see books I've marked "Want to Read" appear either at the top of the list or have a filter to let me see. If a challenge is really popular there can be hundreds or over a thousand books added to a prompt. If I'm unsure what book to use, seeing what others have added to the prompt is very helpful, but not when I have to scroll endlessly just to find a book that I'm remotely interested in reading myself. Having books I've marked as want to read appear early in the list would be a massive relief!

Not sure if this fits in here. But I'd love to be able to filter a challenge by "complete/ To be completed" prompts. I joined some challenges with 100+ books, it would be nice to be able to filter and clean the page in a way that I can see what I still need to achieve.

Could we also get a filter for language! Particularly for the Read The World challenge, a lot of the books that get added are in the language of the country for the prompt. Being able to filter on only books in languages I speak would be very helpful :)

It would also be nice if we could filter the prompt list to either show all or show prompts not completed. I have some challenges with a LOT of prompts and the list is so long to scroll through.

jennifercrowe This is exactly what I was coming to suggest! Some of the prompts I join are 50 books long and there is so much scroll to check what I missed. I want to be able to see my remaining prompts at a glance!

I would love this too! Sometimes I do a reading challenge to try and read books I already own. And sometimes to find new books. So having a filter option would be great!

That's really great feedback, thank you! We are actually currently brainstorming to make adding books to reading challenges a lot smoother and more intuitive, so if you have any other ideas for making this process better, do let us know!

Abbie It would be really great to have a way to signal me that a book I have on my TBR is one that meets a reading challenge prompt.

Also, I know the larger filtering format is in the works, but being able to include/exclude languages would really help pair down the list - especially when looking for a book the Reads the World prompts. :)

hschoneberger We used to have an icon that would display on the list view of any book if someone had added it to one of your reading challenges, but that got removed in a redesign. I'd love to bring it back.

In the meantime, you can use the "added to my reading challenges" filter on the TBR page and also click on "Add to reading challenges" on any book page and see which challenges and prompts, if any, people have added the book too.

Not ideal, but some workarounds in the meantime!

Nadia WOW I only just realized how the "added to my reading challenges" filter that you are talking about here works. Every time I've seen that in the TBR filters, I thought it only referred to "Books I myself have already added to reading challenges" and thought it might be useful for picking "Up Next". 🤯 I am not sure exactly how to make the language more clear, but I definitely will be using that to try to fill up my 2024 Challenges now that I now what it means!!

jaina8851 Glad to hear that you'll get value out of this!! We've had several requests to change it. 😆

Nadia Having played with it a bit after posting this 😅, it definitely was a little harder to use than I thought it was going to be, particularly right in this moment. I'm not ready to archive my 2023 challenges yet but want to get started on picking books for 2024, so it's showing me a LOT of books that are extraneous for what I'm trying to do. Still, I think the idea of it is helpful! Just might need some future tweaking 😄
