Private notes on books

I’d love an option to add private notes to books without having to add a public review. For example, I like adding quotes I enjoyed to my book bujo, and having a spot in StoryGraph to track that (along with other notes on plot or reactions I had to something) would be helpful when going back to my physical journal.

Have you tried the reading journal feature yet? When you track progress on a book (the pencil icon in the Currently Reading section of the home page or at the top right of a book's page), you can click "Add note/Edit date" to add a personal note that gets added to your reading journal.

You can then go back and view journal entries in your Reading Journal ("View Journal Entries" on the right side of the book page for just that book, or see all combined journal entries from the Reading Journal button under Currently Reading on the profile page). And these are all private!

I hope this helps!

brittishliterature Yup! This is our version of private notes. All that's left is to allow y'all to add notes without the book being in a "currently reading" state.

Nadia I would love this! Sometimes I want to be able to make a note to myself for why I added a book to my to-read list because the blurbs don't always remind me enough and it's not always something really covered by my tags (specific friend rec or a critic's review mentioned something not in the blurb).

Nadia i’m agreeing with the reply here. I really want to be able to track who recommended a book to me or why when I add it to my to read list. Sometimes I can’t remember who told me I needed to go read this and that would be very helpful to recall.

patlo Yes, we're going to add this feature for sure. There's also this post: https://roadmap.thestorygraph.com/requests-ideas/posts/add-notes-field-to-to-read-list
