Slowness / Lagging when Adding Tags to Lots of Books/Navigating Large Lists
In Progress

I have ran into this a few times with adding tags. Specifically just now I was going through my owned titles and adding tags to them all and after about 15 books adding tags to future books started to slow down and there is a delay when you are typing in the tag field and selecting them in the drop down.
I am in Safari Version 17.1.2 (19616.2.9.11.12)
Has anyone else experienced this?

Here to add to this. I'm trying to clean up my 'owned' library which, when including kindle books, is almost 400 books. I'm trying to edit formats and tags and omg its so slow. I wish there was a way to mass edit (more like in a spreadsheet, like select all and then change format or something)
madlyreading Working on it. And there will be a way to mass edit...but not sure if it'll include format. It might!
This is AWFUL and getting worse.
Having been defeated every time when trying to work wih a list of ~700 books in one tag, I just tried with only 156 in another. I started an hour ago and had to concede defeat, again.
The purpose of checking this set was to add a specific tag to some of them if it wasn't already there. Most books took between 2-6 MINUTES to add the tag, but the last one I tried simply kept stalling and freezing and I gave up after FIFTEEN minutes. This was after I shut down any other running apps and only had the browser open. Checking Windows Task Manager showed neither my CPU nor my memory were maxed out.
Because it kept freezing so often I had plenty of time to note the names of 2 books I wanted to tag, and after shutting the browser down, I went straight to each of those books and added the tag. The problem with that is that I have no way of knowing how far through the full list of 156 books I was, especially as the list keeps showing duplicate entries. The knowledge that I will have to select that set and check it AGAIN is not doing wonders for mental health.
I get that all the whizz bang social stuff like buddy reads and book clubs are critical for the longterm viability of TSG, but when TSG'a core functionality as book tracker is crippled to the extent that what should be FUN (library maintenance) becomes a frightening pain to be avoided, that is very sad. I really do have better things to do with my time than stare at a frozen browser window for hours at a time trying to do something as straightforward as add a tag.
It has literally and without a shred of hyperbole reached the point now where the first thing I have to ask myself before attempting any kind of maintenance on my TSG library is "do I have the time?" This is a persistent issue and one that events of the last week have shown me is getting much, much worse. Fix it, PLEASE
I'm having the same issue, specifically on the owned-books page, it started fine and then as I added tags to more and more books it became so laggy, it's almost impossible to tag them. Good to know a fix will be incoming, it's a bit unusable at the moment unfortunately.
Same issue here, adding time takes 10 seconds with multiple retries as the window jumps, the inputed text suddenly duplicates or you click on a tag, it doesn't work and you need to restart from scratch. Love the app and the new features but a better response time would be awesome.
superpuffin Yes, we'll be prioritising performance some time this year, and perhaps sooner than originally planned.
Nadia Will this also address the infinite scroll issue?
bearpolar Re performance, the plan is for there to no slowness/lagginess in the app. If infinite scroll is causing slowness somewhere then it will be removed, though in most cases it's not the infinite scroll itself that's causing issues, but other underlying issues then exacerbated by infinite scroll. If you're talking about a UX preference for not having infinite scroll then that'll be handled separately on a case-by-case basis.
This is a known issue! Will hopefully be fixing it some time next year.
